Aces high with John Deere and RDO
Queensland's Ace Rental says it's building its momentum with a John Deere grader purchased through RDO EquipmentQueensland-based specialist equipment rental company, Ace Rental, says it prides itself on being at the forefront of grader technology.
Established by owner Mick Sheldon in 2003 and specialising in wet and dry hire for civil construction projects throughout the state’s south-east, the company insists on using the best graders and offering the best service, which is why the firm recently purchased its first John Deere grader through RDO Equipment.
“We want to be the best, which means providing reliable equipment, backed by the support of our team and experienced operators,” says Mick.
“And with that, we need to have quality machines in our fleet so there is little downtime for both our operators and customers alike.
“We purchased our first John Deere grader in 2011 and still have it available for dry hire today. Currently, we have four John Deere graders in our fleet, and we recently purchased our first grader through RDO Equipment – a 670GP equipped with Trimble Earthworks.”

Mick says the standout on his new grader has been the Premium Circle feature, which features a fully sealed bearing and pinion design to reduce maintenance costs and downtime, while also significantly boosting circle torque and speed.
The Premium Circle option replaces wear inserts with a sealed bearing that only requires a few minutes to grease every 500 hours. Additionally, the gearbox oil change intervals have doubled from 2000 to 4000 hours, while the pinion and circle teeth are completely sealed from dirt and debris to minimise wear.
“Usually, you need to spend a fair bit of money to adjust, set and then replace the circle on graders, but with Premium Circle it alleviates all the maintenance we would need to do, as it’s fully enclosed and can take on that wear and tear,” Mick says.
“We might spend up to $50k extra on each grader over its lifetime maintaining the circle, but Premium Circle reduces that cost significantly for us – it’s a gamechanger.”
Along with the Premium Circle feature, Mick says the support and advice he received from RDO Equipment helped make his latest purchase a thorough success.
“RDO’s product knowledge throughout the whole process was great,”he says.
“They knew what features would benefit my business and kept me updated the whole way through to delivery. Their reps then helped train some of my operators on the machine and made it all an easy, straightforward process.”
