Bauma 2022 to champion zero-emissions in construction

The countdown is on to the world’s largest construction trade show

Last held in 2019, the world’s largest construction machinery expo, bauma, will once again return to the Munich exhibition grounds from October 24 to 30, 2022.

Event organiser, Messe München, says this year the expo is set to play host to over 3100 exhibitors from 60 countries, and will take up a total space of 614,000 square metres – equivalent to roughly 86 soccer fields.

This makes the event the largest trade fair in the world in terms of exhibition space, organisers claim.

Zoom in on zero-emissions

With the world increasingly focusing on environmental sustainability, major corporations are looking at ways to reduce their carbon footprints and construction machinery manufacturers are no exception.

Big names like Volvo and JCB have been electrifying their product ranges and coming up with environmentally friendly alternatives to diesel-powered machines, and have even successfully commercialised a number of their ‘green’ products.

Several companies will be using the show as a platform to launch their products or prototypes that have been designed for zero-emissions operation. These include:

  • Wacker Neuson’s APU3050e battery-powered reversible vibratory plate with direct drive
  • Hamm AG electric tandem rollers
  • Bobcat T7X all-electric compact track loader
  • Putzmeister electric concrete mixer
  • Tadano E-pack electrohydraulic lifting system
  • Tadano world’s first all-electric rough terrain crane
  • Kramer-Werke GmbH electric telescopic loader
  • Komatsu fully electric wheel loader prototype

Jam-packed

Alongside the impressive displays of machinery around the grounds, there will also be a series of seminars, awards and themed displays to be held over the duration of the show.

The bauma FORUM will be held at the bauma Innovation Hall LAB0 and will feature a different topic every day, from ‘Construction methods and materials of tomorrow’ to ‘Mining – sustainable, efficient and reliable’ to ‘The road to zero emissions’.

On October 24, the bauma Innovation Award 2022 will be presented to the winners of its five categories, namely climate protection, digitalisation, mechanical engineering, construction and research.

With this prize, the VDMA (Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), Messe München and the top associations of the German construction industry will honour research and development teams from companies and universities that are bringing practical leading technology for the construction, building materials and mining industries to market.

The virtual reality (VR) experience, a very popular feature of the 2019 show, will be back this year with a focus on the digitisation of construction sites.

Visitors to the VR experience can immerse themselves in the construction sites of today and tomorrow and experience the interactions between people and machines for themselves in the digital space. The bauma VR experience will once again be part of the Innovation Hall LAB0 this year.

Another key feature of the 2022 bauma is the ‘THINK BIG!’ initiative, primarily aimed at students to get them thinking about a career in construction. Some activities planned for this initiative include company presentations and workshops, hands-on activities, games and information sessions about a career in the industry.
