Cat 336 digs deep

Caterpillar says its recently introduced Cat 336 hydraulic excavator is rugged, reliable and supremely capable

The Cat 336 hydraulic excavator offers blends performance and productivity with reliability and low owning and operating costs, says Caterpillar, with the model capable of strong digging forces and swing torque to handle the most demanding applications.

“Our new Cat 336 model delivers the right balance of power and payload,” says Brian Abbott, Caterpillar global product manager for large hydraulic excavators.

“The result is a rugged and reliable machine that delivers excellent production along with low owning and operating costs.”

With four million hours of service attesting to the Cat C7.1 engine’s long-term reliability, the Cat 336 features three engine modes to match performance with the best fuel economy across a wide range of jobs: Power mode, Smart mode, and Eco mode.

Engine oil and fuel filters are synchronized for service at 1000 hours, increasing uptime and reducing parts and labour costs compared to the 336F Series excavator, the company says.

And with high-ambient temperature capability of 52°C and cold-start capability at -18°C, the Cat 336 can handle all sorts of climates and altitudes.

Auto hydraulic warm-up in cold temperatures gets the machine to work faster and prolongs the life of machine components, says Cat, while the air intake filter with pre-cleaner features high dust capacity and a high-efficiency hydraulic fan offers optional automatic reverse to keep cores free from debris.

On the tech front, the Cat 336’s Product Link technology provides a wealth of information, allowing operators and owners to view location, hours, fuel usage, idle time, maintenance alerts, diagnostic codes and machine health online via web and mobile applications.

Maximizing machine uptime, ‘remote troubleshoot’ and ‘remote flash’ features allow dealers to remotely connect with the machine to diagnose fault codes and update operating software.

Deluxe and Premium cab trims are available, the former with a heated air-suspension seat, the latter with a heated and ventilated air-suspension seat, while both feature a tilt-up left-hand console for easy ingress and egress.

Further features include a touchscreen monitor and jog dial, keyless pushbutton starting, Operator ID passcode, and customisable operator settings.

The optional Cat Stick Steer makes travel and turning much easier, says Caterpillar, while host of standard technologies – Cat Payload for on-board weighing, Grade Assist for maintaining grade, and 2D Grade with depth and slope indication – further enhance efficiency and productivity.

All Cat Grade systems are compatible with radios and base stations from top third-party technology suppliers. Operators can store up to four depth and slope offsets to quickly cut to grade without a grade checker.

Auto hammer stop warns operators after 15 seconds of continuous firing and then shuts off the hammer after 30 seconds to prevent wear and tear. Auto dig boost and auto heavy lift increase bucket penetration and lift capacity by eight per cent, and Cat Lift Assist helps operators avoid tipping the machine.
