Cat has lifted the lid on its latest excavator offering – the 306 CR which is modeled on its next-generation mini excavators launched on to the market late last year.
Both ranges share a number of features including the Stick Steer function, Bluetooth capability in the cab, as well as common components for ease of repair and servicing.
Its major machine structures including upper and lower frames, track frames, boom and stick are modeled after its larger counterparts for long-term durability.
With its long stick option, the 306 CR delivers a maximum dig depth of 4110 mm and 7175kg maximum operating weight when equipped with the sealed and pressurised cab, Cat said.
Built with a swing boom, the 306 CR’s compact radius design provides a low, 1475mm tail swing with counterweight for working close to obstructions.
A canopy alternative to the pressurised cab will be available in 2020.
The new Cat 306 CR has a lift capacity of up to 3555kg at a 3m radius. The machine features a fuel-saving, load-sensing hydraulic system with an electronically controlled variable-displacement piston pump that generates 173l/min hydraulic oil flow.
The hydraulic capacity provides for increased travel performance and higher digging forces than other competitor units, Cat said.
A flow rate of 90l/min to the auxiliary circuit enables the 306 CR to handle the most demanding hydromechanical attachments. Complete with quick-disconnect lines, the standard auxiliary hydraulic system provides one-way, two-way and continuous flow.
The Cat C2.4 turbo diesel engine rated at 55.9 net hp powers the new 306 CR mini excavator and meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/Stage V emission standards. Automatic engine idle and shutdown features help to save on fuel consumption.
The Cat 306 CR's sealed and pressurised cabin lowers in-cab operating noise levels to 72 dB(A) and is heated and air-conditioned, Cat said.
The cab also has roll over protective structure (ROPS), tip over protective structure (TOPS) and top guard standard to provide a safe working environment for the operator.
The Next Generation LCD monitor provides easy-to-read machine information, jog-dial for simple navigation, standard Bluetooth capability and allows operators to set personal operating preferences. The colour monitor gives the operator critical operating details such as fuel, coolant temperature, hour meter, performance and machine adjustments, and maintenance and machine monitoring.
With the touch of a button, operators can switch from conventional lever/foot-pedal steering controls to the standard Stick Steer system which allows operators to drive the excavator like a skid steer. An intuitive pattern changer allows operators to select their preferred joystick movement for controlling the excavator.
The 306 CR is available in straight blade, angled blade and extra tool carrier (XTC) configurations.
The blade features ample travel, above and below grade operation, float function, and “dig-to-blade” function to efficiently handle loose material in backfilling and grading applications.
The 6-tonne 306 CR shares common components with models in the Cat next generation mini excavator range for lower repair costs and decreased service time.
It features ground-level access to maintenance checkpoints for a safe and easy daily maintenance routine.
Extended grease intervals and filter service life allows the 306 CR to work longer and harder for operators, Caterpillar added.
