DrumBlaster spreads its wings

Unique Aussie innovation that washes down concrete mixer drums effectively gains global recognition

A local invention that uses high pressure water jet to clean down concrete trucks efficiently has received widespread interest not just in the country but also overseas.

Coined the DrumBlaster, the system consists of a long boom tipped with a multi-nozzle water jet that sends water at high pressure into mixer drums to scour concrete build-up from all interior surfaces.

It measures 2m by 1.2m with a boom length of eight to 10m.

Compared to the conventional cleaning method of filling drums partially with water and mixing, the DrumBlaster is proving to be much more effective.

According to the inventor, tests in Australia have shown that the DrumBlaster can effectively reduce concrete build-up by up to 95 per cent. By eliminating build up, operators can deliver quality product to customers and improve safety of operations by preventing fatal pump or pipe blow-outs resulting from build-up clogging the machines.

“It is gratifying that after five years of developing, enhancing and proving our technology, it is now acknowledged by major concrete groups as the best available globally,” DrumBlaster director, Michael O’Neill says.

“2017 has been an important transitional year for us. We’ve broken into new markets internationally, while in Australia the pace of orders is increasing, with DrumBlaster accepted as the best way to maintain clean mixer drums.

“It benefits plant operators, customers and drivers.”

Earlier this year in the US, the DrumBlaster was put through its paces in a trial and was exhibited at two World of Concrete congresses, as well as a National Ready Mix Concrete Association exhibition.

Following strong interest, DrumBlaster has received its first US order and is now getting ready to ship the product to service a fleet of delivery trucks in Louisiana.

In the UK, DrumBlaster has negotiated a distribution contract and its first product has recently started operating at a new Heidelberg Hanson concrete plant in Leeds.

DrumBlaster has also appointed a distributor in Belgium and is currently in discussion with concrete groups in Canada, Argentina and South Africa.

Closer to home, DrumBlaster has sold 12 machines in NSW, six in Victoria, and one each in South Australia and Queensland. Its most recent order came from a major NSW-based infrastructure provider for four machines that will keep a fleet of 28 underground trucks clean and capable of carrying full loads 24/7.
