Global steel manufacturing company SSAB has unveiled its Hardox 500 Tuf steel plate which is a combination of its tried and tested Hardox 450 and 500.
SSAB says tests reveal the 500 Tuf lasts twice as long as the Hardox 400. It has a hardness reading of between 475-505 HBW and according to SSAB, can also withstand extreme climate conditions.

Its durability makes it ideal for use as structural material for heavy-duty tipper bodies and buckets, and is designed for heavy duty applications such as the loading and unloading of heavy and sharp rocks in quarries; handling large and heavy steel scrap, and in demolition when pieces of concrete with rebar are loaded or dropped into tippers.
In a real world test of the Hardox 500 Tuf, a dumper was fitted with the wear plate and transported over 40,000 metric tons of crushed rock for more than a year. At the end of the trial, SSAB measured the thickness at the end section of the 6mm bottom plate and found average wear to be only five per cent.
The Hardox wear plates range is available via Australian Steel.
