JCB launches “most powerful backhoe ever”

JCB has lifted the lid off its 5CX WasteMaster which the company claims is the most powerful and productive backhoe loader it has ever produced.

According to JCB, 5CX has all the engine power, torque, tractive effort and pushing power needed to handle the most arduous waste rehandling applications, as well as loading, roading and hill climbing.

The JCB 5CX WasteMaster features a large 1.4 cubic-metre shovel with a 6590kgf breakout for faster rehandling. It also has all-wheel-steer for better manoeuvrability on-site. The 5CX WasteMaster has a maximum digging depth of 6.51m– which JCB said is the deepest on any of its backhoe loaders.

Under the bonnet is a 118hp DIESELMAX engine, which according to JCB, is the most powerful ever fitted to its backhoe range. Limited Slip Differentials increase traction and make power delivery more efficient.

Its low ratio first and second gears provide the pushing power needed to push and tow transfer waste bins around. There are six gears in total to provide smooth changes and fuel efficiency.

A kickdown switch gives extra power when loading while power brakes provide efficient, safe stopping power for low pedal effort.

JCB claimed its patented TorqueLock feature reduces fuel consumption by up to 25 per cent when roading as well as cuts travel time by up to 10 per cent.

The chassis on the 5CX is heavy-duty for the toughest of applications. The backhoe’s front axle mount is reinforced to handle huge lifting forces, while high ground clearance makes for superb performance on uneven ground. Heavy-duty arms, reinforced around the pins and shovel, handle massive reach.

Inside the cab are ergonomically designed, seat-mounted excavator style controls. According to JCB, the interior is inspired by the automotive industry for familiar ergonomics, complete with heated air suspension seat, heated front screen, air conditioning, as well as a coffee machine.

Combined with JCB’s tried and tested Smoothride suspension system, the 5CX WasteMaster backhoe offers ultimate operator comfort.

For stability, the 5CX WasteMaster comes with integrated front mounted stabiliser legs in tandem with longer rear stabiliser legs to allow the backhoe to operate over high sided waste skips.

The 5CX is available with a wide range of waste re-handling specific attachments including waste multishovel, hook lift frame, sweeper collector, jaw bucket and compactor wheel.
