JCB has announced the launch of its Pothole Pro tool in the Australian market, which is essentially an excavator specced up specifically for the task of repairing potholes.
The excavator comes with three dedicated attachments to cut, crop and clean and, according to JCB, can repair a typical pothole in just eight minutes and eliminates the need for additional specialist equipment and manpower.
The Pothole Pro is based on JCB’s Hydradig wheeled excavator platform which is powered by a JCB Ecomax engine. It has an output of 108hp and speeds of up to 40km/h when moving between sites, allowing operators to cover more area in a day.
Inside the cab, a range of advanced and ergonomic features provide ultimate comfort and productivity for operators. Optimum visibility is the name of the game with JCB’s Hydradig platform, with the operator’s seat mounted high offering unobstructed views from within the cab. This allows operators to work with confidence especially in congested urban areas. A Smooth Ride System ensures operator comfort for long days in the cab.
Its job specific attachments are the key features of the Pothole Pro. A 600mm wide side shifting planer allows the machine to efficiently cut against the roadside kerb, while the self-levelling mechanism guarantees consistent results regardless of the gradient, JCB said.
Adjustments to the 600mm planer can be easily made from the operator’s seat, thanks to hydraulic depth and tilt control.
A dedicated cropping tool creates a uniform hole profile that ensures long-lasting patches.
The JCB Pothole Pro is also equipped with a 1200mm wide sweeper collector featuring dust suppression to swiftly prepare potholes in a matter of minutes.

Operators can then collect and dump chippings effortlessly using either bucket mode or by engaging the brush, significantly reducing the time required for road surface preparation before re-laying.
With a claimed average repair time of eight minutes, the Pothole Pro is capable of covering up to 250sqm of repairs a day or 700 potholes a month, JCB said. On average, a pothole repair with the JCB Pothole Pro costs $55, offering tremendous value for money for infrastructure service providers, JCB added.
The JCB Pothole Pro is now available in Australia and is currently being demonstrated to customers across the country. For more information, visit JCB CEA’s website.
