JCB rig designed for tight access

JCB claims its new JZ140 excavator is 29 per cent shorter than conventional models, making it well suited for work in confined spaces

Heavy equipment manufacturer JCB has redesigned its JZ140 hydraulic excavator with a dramatically reduced tail swing for higher manoeuvrability in tight spaces.

JCB Construction Equipment Australia (CEA) National Product Manager for Heavy Line Excavators, Deon Cope, says the new JZ140 offers all the performance benefits of the original JZ140 model in a more compact size.

"The machine has built on what was already a solid base for our excavator product range, and with the reduced tail swing we're seeing zero compromise on dig performance and stability, making it a highly competitive product in the Australian market," he says.

The JZ140 is powered by JCB's EcoMax Stage IIIB /Stage T4i engine with no DPF.

In addition to a reduced tail swing, upgrades to the new JZ140 include a new cabin and better electrics and hydraulics, in line with JCB's JS excavator range.

JCB also says it offers five per cent fuel economy improvement over other models.

"The all-new JZ140 has been designed to power through jobs with the latest-generation hydraulic system, class-leading chart performance and a full-size operator's cab for efficient and smooth control," Cope says.

"A compact counterweight and revised engine positioning means the machine has excellent stability, thanks to a lowered centre of gravity.

"This delivers improved lifting capacity, digging power and working range.

"It also means the machine can work more effectively close to buildings and other structures, with a reduced risk of causing damage."

JCB's SMART monitoring system is available with the JZ140, which provides the operator with engine oil and coolant information and allows daily checks to be carried out from within the cab.

The updated JZ140 comes with JCB's LiveLink telematics system.

"LiveLink allows operators to remain in control with enhanced maintenance reporting, critical machine health alerts, real-time location data and Geofencing alerts, improving operator productivity and maximising uptime," Cope says.

The JZ140 comes standard with a ROPS/TOPs cabin.
