Kobelco said its new SK140LC-11 excavator features a high-tech design and premium features as a result of customer feedback, offering high mechanical power, fast cycle times, refined operator comfort and fuel efficiency.
“The introduction of the SK140LC-11 to the Australian market has been a significant decision by Kobelco,” said Kobelco Construction Machinery Australia (KCMA) General Manager of Product & Distribution, Mark Johnson.
“The 13-15 tonne operating class is traditionally made up of smaller contractors and rental fleet companies who require versatile machines that offer increased productivity, good digging power and low running costs with an extremely competitive initial purchase price – the new SK140LC-11 more than fulfils these requirements.”

The SK140LC-11 is powered by a 3-litre Isuzu turbo diesel engine which complies with USA Tier 4 engine emission standards. The engine is rated at 78.5kW and offers a drawbar pulling force of 141kN and a bucket digging force of 105.4kN. An optional 600kg counterweight, plus dozer blade option are available from factory.
The SK140LC-11 features Kobelco’s new Dash 11 series modern and spacious cab design that offers easy-to-use controls and systems similar to today’s premium high-end cars, Kobelco said.
A 10-inch colour monitor – which Kobelco claims is the largest in-cab visual information screen within the excavator industry – provides easily accessible and programmable menu functions, machine status information and clear rear and right-side views from the standard-fit upper deck cameras.
All monitor functions are accessible using an LED back-lit multifunction jog-type dial.
Kobelco revised its hydraulic system to offer smoother hydraulic control on the new machine. This design aims to reduce operator fatigue during operation, while at the same time providing precise control movement.
The new Kobelco branded Grammar seat can be adjustment for utmost operator comfort over a full working day. An automatic climate control system is available to maintain the desired cabin temperature through multiple cooling vents optimally positioned around the operator.
The SK140LC-11 is equipped with the latest technology for increased efficiency and productivity, Kobelco said.
Seven pre-set hydraulic attachment modes (e.g. bucket, nibbler, tilt rotator and breaker etc.) can be accessed via the master jog-dial and on-screen selection modes. This system allows versatility with different attachments and ensure the correct hydraulic performance is delivered to suit the task at hand.
In addition, four customisable modes are available and can be pre-set by service engineers to extend the range of hydraulic operations for additional machine roles. Other standard equipment include proportional hand controlled nibbler and breaker circuit; hand controlled tilt/rotate circuit with dedicated gear pump, and quick hitch hydraulic piping.
Another new feature on the SK140LC-11 is the FOPS Level II roof guard. Previous roof guards have been rigid mounted for safety and security but this latest guard features a swing-open door section so the external roof glass can be easily cleaned without compromising the guard’s structural integrity.
Other tweaks Kobelco has made to the new machine include repositioning the safety valve on the cylinder arm to minimise risk of accidental contact with site obstacles, as well as uprate the mounting lug dimensions on the standard bucket to suit the available digging force.
The SK140LC-11 comes with a 280-litre fuel tank complete with a fuel cap that meets EN regulations to prevent fuel spillage. Internal LED lighting that reacts to door opening and closing as well as main ignition on and off further promotes operator safety.
“All these features are what our key potential customers have told us they need. Add to the mix Kobelco’s legendary reliability and durability, it is clear that the SK140LC-11 is the new obvious choice in this operating class,” Johnson said.
The Kobelco SK140LC-11 is now available from dealerships around Australia.
