Komatsu showcases new-age technology at bauma
The world’s pre-eminent construction expo has provided yet more insight into the company’s zero-emissions and digitised futureThis year’s massive bauma construction fair in Germany has firmly put ‘smart’ construction, digitisation and all-electric machines in the spotlight, with Japanese company Komatsu remaining at the front line of the new-age technology.
The expo, held in late October, saw Komatsu showcase, among 40 pieces of equipment, two electric standouts: the PC210E hydraulic excavator, along with a wheel loader prototype that is at an advanced stage of testing.
Attendees were also able to see the PC4000-11 electric drive excavator, with a KomVision 360-degree bird’s-eye view and Argus PLM payload meter to identify the bucket payload.
But as Dean Gaedtke, Executive General Manager Construction at Komatsu Australia, points out, Komatsu’s track record in the electrification space stretches back decades.
“We were excited to showcase our latest innovations at bauma, but many people were surprised to be reminded that we’ve had electric machines in market for over 20 years,” he said.
“It’s truly exciting to see industry really picking up the pace now on adoption of electric equipment, and to be able to continue to expand the range of machines we offer with electric power, without compromising on productivity.
“We’ve sold over 1300 electric drive trucks in Australia, and over 380 electric mining excavators globally, and demand for these game-changing machines is only growing.
“Our strong focus on smart construction was definitely a drawcard to our stand, and also signals Komatsu’s commitment to reaching zero carbon emissions by 2050, and halving our CO2 emissions from product operations from our 2010 levels.”

The Komatsu stand also showcased several other new Komatsu models, including the PC950-11 hydraulic excavator, D71PXi-24 dozer, PC88MR-11 midi excavator, HD785-8 rigid dump truck, and K100 boom change system.
“It was invigorating to be showcasing ground-breaking technologies and new ways of working that will help our industry move towards a cleaner, safer, more productive jobsite and a sustainable future,” continued Gaedtke.
“It was also great to be able to connect our global product and solutions engineers with our Australian and New Zealand customers, and give them the opportunity to hear the differing needs of our market.”
The next bauma fair will be held in April 2025.
