Next Manheim mining equipment auction starts March 20

Online auction held in partnership with Lennon Heavy Equipment to feature wide range of mining equipment including dozers, excavators, wheel loaders and more

Auction company, Manheim Industrial, and mining equipment specialist, Lennon Heavy Equipment, have teamed up to run their second online mining equipment auction following a first successful event in December 2023.

The auction will run from March 20 to 26 with bidding open to both domestic and international buyers.

The December 2023 event saw a wide range of machinery from leading brands such as Caterpillar, Komatsu and Hitachi that included bulldozers, motor graders, excavators, and wheel loaders moved from mine sites directly to end users.

Mining dozers are up for bids

Some 457 bids from buyers in Australia, China and Canada were placed, with equipment selling on average 31 per cent over the reserve, according to Manheim.

The March 2024 auction will have 35 pieces of equipment up for bids ranging from bulldozers to dump trucks; and from excavators to wheel loaders. Most equipment are Caterpillar branded with several other brands included in the mix such as Hitachi, Komatsu and Liebherr.

“We’re excited to now offer multiple disposal strategies to our clients by providing auctions in partnership with Manheim,” said Matt Lennon from Lennon Heavy Equipment.

“Continuing on from the first successful sale, we look forward to what the future holds for auctions in the mining industry.”

Manheim said the auction offers a new and unique solution to an industry that has been highly underserviced over the last decade.

“It represents a tremendous opportunity for vendors to move on equipment and offers buyers an abundance of heavy machinery to choose for their next contract,” said Manheim Senior Valuer, Jack Bookham.

“Moving forward we intend to be the go-to in valuing, remarketing and offering tailored liquidity solutions specific to mining equipment for both operators and lenders.”

Bookham said it is an opportune time for liquidity in the mining equipment resale business, given the escalating prices of equipment.

“High demand due to skyrocketing commodity prices, shortages from production, delayed supply chains and costly biosecurity requirements at Australia’s ports are all pushing up prices and limiting choice,” Bookham said.

“Good quality used equipment is increasingly hard to find right now, so having a regular centralised national auction event in partnership with a company like Lennon has arguably never been more needed.”
