Mini excavator park for kids opens its doors

First excavator theme park for the little ones officially opens on Tamborine Mountain

If you’re stuck on ideas on where to go for the next school holidays, DIG IT has just the place for you.

DIG IT claims to be the first ever excavator park designed for children, and has opened its doors on Tamborine Mountain, QLD, just an hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast in the Scenic Rim.

Located within Thunderbird Park, DIG IT features nine Cat mini excavators that are all built in Queensland and offers two-hour experiences for children to try out a variety of activities using the mini excavators.

It is divided into several zones featuring different activities for visitors to experience, including:

  • The Dig Zone where kids get trained on a 1.7 tonne excavator, digging in the earth;
  • The Demolition Zone in which kids get the chance to knock over the Dig IT towers using a mini excavator and a wrecking ball;
  • The Croc Zone where kids try to hook a croc; and
  • The RC Zone where children can operate a variety of machines like dozers, dump trucks, excavators and rear loaders using remote control.

Kids will also get the opportunity to go up against their friends and test their skills on the machines under the watchful eyes of experienced personnel.

They'll get to navigate obstacle courses and complete tasks, while learning about the importance of teamwork and safety.

While designed with little ones in mind, DIG IT says parents can join in the fun too.

DIG IT promises a fun and safe experience for all with skilled employees present every step of the way to offer guidance and supervision. Safety equipment such as high-vis vests and hard hats will be provided.

“DIG IT has been custom-designed for both children and their parents who love to play, featuring a range of activities that are fun, educational and engaging, kids learning about the construction industry, earthworks, engineering, building, the importance of safety, and teamwork,” the park says in a statement.

“It’s the stuff real memories are made of – and there’s not an iPad or Screen anywhere.”

Admission is $45 per person and spans two hours. There are four sessions per day for participants to choose from. DIG IT is open every weekend as well as every day over the school holidays, which is coming up from June 24 (in Queensland, NT and Victoria).

You can book your experience online on DIG IT's website.
