Monster Kobelco SK1300DLC now available

Kobelco says its new SK1300DLC is the world’s largest OEM-made building demolition machine, and it’s heading our way

When it comes to tackling major building demolition jobs, Kobelco says there’s little that will stand in the way of the new Kobelco SK1300DLC.

The company says the Kobelco SK1300DLC is in fact the world’s largest OEM-manufactured building demolition machine. And with stats like an operating weight of 130 tonnes and a colossal reach of up to 40 metres, there’s plenty of substance to back the claim.

The Kobelco SK1300DLC first entered service in Europe in March of this year. Many global sales have followed, and now Kobelco Australia says the leviathan is available to order in Australia and New Zealand, with the first examples to reach our shores in mid-2023.

Joining the ranks of Kobelco’s smaller high-reach demolition excavators, such as the SK550DLC-10, SK400DLC-10, and SK350DLC-10, the SK1300DLC-10 is an ultra-high-reach unit with all the benefits of a conventional Kobelco excavator, but with the extra strength, durability and technology to handle the toughest demolition conditions.

Whether it's knocking down industrial sites, powerplants, oil rigs or other examples of infrastructure, or clearing areas for urban regeneration, Kobelco says the SK1300DLC has the power to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Featuring Kobelco’s common-base architecture, the SK1300DLC also features the brand’s NEXT ADVANCE four-piece high-reach demolition attachment, which the company says can be adapted for multiple applications from high-elevation projects to breaking up building foundations.

The NEXT ADVANCE system also means the machine can reach greater heights with heavier tools while keeping the excavator’s centre of gravity low, exceeding the current operational limits of other 100-tonne-class machines.

Kobelco says that with its maximum pin height of 40 metres the unit can accommodate a crusher capacity weight of 4.3 tonnes, while the 35-metre boom can handle a crusher weight of 5.2 tonnes. A three-piece high-reach attachment, in either 35-metre or 31-metre formats, will take crusher weights of 5.0 tonnes and 6.1 tonnes respectively, while affording an even greater reach.

A further boom configuration can take crushers of up to 12 tonnes, to make light work of processing material at ground level or for handling deeper sub-grade foundations.

The Kobelco SK1300DLC has a transport weight of 32 tonnes and a width of around 3.2 metres, while the boom assembly can be disassembled in around two hours. Add in the fast set-up and pack-down times, and Kobelco says it’s a hit with operators working on multiple jobsites or on different projects.

Operator comfort and safety is well addressed. Kobelco’s Cab Interference Prevention System alerts the operator if the attachment comes within a certain distance of the cab, before slowing and stopping automatically. While a Tip-Over Warning Device will trigger an audible and visual warning if there’s any danger of the machine toppling, given its working position and the swing angle of the attachment.

Then there’s the high-strength security glass with radial grid guards across the front and top windows, a multitude of cameras located around the base and on the arm, the debris deflector, a raft of powerful LED working lights, and the cab emergency lowering device lever.

“As the market leader in high-reach demolition excavator sales in Japan, Kobelco’s expertise and reputation globally in the demolition industry is well established,” said Chris Wolf, Kobelco's General Manager of Marketing & Direct Sales.

“With the introduction of the SK1300DLC, Kobelco is now able to offer this ultra-high-reach excavator to demolition contractors across Australia and New Zealand.

“The SK1300DLC is ideal for demolition projects that require a high reach of over 30m, but its NEXT ADVANCE system and high-capacity tool weight also make it ideal for demolition work at ground level or sub-ground.

“We see that this versatility, and the fact that it is quick and easy to disassemble and transport, is of great benefit to demolition contractors working on multiple jobsites. Despite its commanding size, at the heart of it, the SK1300DLC also has all of the same great high quality and performance for which Kobelco is renowned.”
