New Cat tracked loader surfaces

Caterpillar 963 track loader up to 10 per cent better fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor, Cat said

Caterpillar has announced the addition of the 963 loader with a track undercarriage to its product line that will replace the existing 963K model.

The 20-tonne 963 tracked loader meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V emission standards and has a power output of 202hp.

The new model is powered by a Cat C7.1 engine that produces 15 per cent more peak torque than the previous model for more power to the ground under load, according to Caterpillar.

An Auto Mode that adapts engine speed to the load provides up to 10 per cent fuel consumption reduction, Cat said, while an Eco Mode will use even lower speeds for further reduction in fuel consumption in lighter duty applications. Power Mode will keep engine speed high for more demanding applications.

The new 963 is available with an optional Performance Series bucket that boosts productivity by up to 20 per cent, Cat added. It can be fitted with an optional Fusion Quick Coupler that enables fast attachment changes between a variety of buckets, forks and other tools that can be shared among track loaders, wheel loaders and other Fusion compatible machines.

The 963 features an updated cab with suspension seat and adjustable armrests and controls. A 10-inch touchscreen dash display keeps operators informed on machine operating parameters and features a standard High Definition rearview camera.

A Slope Indicate function shows machine mainfall and cross slope on the display.

Operators can choose from two operating modes - the joystick option which allows operators to drive the machine like how they would skid steers or compact tracked loaders, or the more traditional V-lever and foot pedal controls.

With either control methods, operators can set the implement response – fine, normal, coarse – to match operator preference or application.

The Cat 963 tracked loader is equipped with a range of standard Cat products and technologies including:

  • Cat LINK telematics technology gathers data generated by equipment, materials, and people – and serving it up in customisable formats.
  • Product Link that collects data automatically and accurately from any equipment asset regardless of type and brand. The information can be viewed online through the web or mobile applications.
  • VisionLink lets operators access information anytime from anywhere. A Cat dealer can help con?gure a customised subscription, available with cellular or satellite reporting or both.
  • Remote Troubleshoot allows Cat dealers to perform diagnostic testing remotely.
  • Remote Flash updates on-board software without a technician being present, at a convenient time, potentially reducing update time by as much as 50 per cent, Cat said.
  • Application Profile and Operator ID help save time by saving preferred machine settings.
  • Passcode provides an optional additional level of security by requiring an operator to enter an ID before the machine will start.

There are several configurations operators can select from factory, including purpose-built Low Ground Pressure (LGP) or Waste Handling models which come with specialised undercarriage, guarding and a number of extra features.
