New JCB machines on their way to Australia over the next 12 months

Adaptalift JCB officially opened its new premises in Truganina, Melbourne's west, last week, welcoming customers, industry leaders and partners to a glittering launch event.

Under the new dealership model, Adaptalift JCB now provides its full range of products and customer support across Australia's major metropolitan markets, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

With this new chapter, Australian customers are set to see a wave of new equipment arrive over the next 12 months, including tractors, excavators and backhoe loaders.

Adaptalift JCB already offers JCB's X Series excavators up to 40 tonnes in Australia, but the brand sees further expansion of the range as a key opportunity.

Adaptalift JCB executive general manager, David Brunt, said the new-generation series introduces "a whole bunch of new technology and capability".

Launched globally in 2018, the X Series is built around JCB's CommandPlus cab, featuring a customer-led control layout, seat-mounted joystick controls and double-cushion viscous mounts that reduce in-cab noise.

Every model has undergone extensive endurance testing, while newer machines are fitted with JCB's UX operator interface — a 10-inch touchscreen supporting personalised operator profiles, simplified attachment selection and phone connectivity. JCB LiveLink telematics also comes standard, allowing remote monitoring of fuel use, machine location and servicing requirements.

More recently, the 420X and 520X, powered by Stage V engines, were released in the UK, extending the range from 13 tonnes up to 50 tonnes.

The 420X is a 40-tonne-class machine designed for aggregate production, contract crushing, demolition and quarrying, powered by a 321hp Stage V diesel engine. Sitting above it is the 520X, JCB's first 50-tonne-class excavator, with an operating weight of 52 to 57 tonnes depending on specification and powered by a 400hp Cummins engine.

Both models feature the same CommandPlus cab and JCB UX touchscreen interface used across the wider X Series range.

"Australia is the kind of market that requires those sizes of excavators, and we are working towards that — to grow in the excavator market in Australia," said JCB director of international sales, Jose Luis Gonçalves.

JCB's DualDrive-equipped 5CX PRO backhoe loader has already arrived locally, with Adaptalift JCB displaying its first unit in the showroom.

Brunt described the model as "the jewel in the crown" of JCB's backhoe range, a category the manufacturer is credited with inventing.

The new DualDrive system allows the operator to drive the machine in any direction while remaining seated facing the excavator end. It uses a foot throttle and brake pedal at the rear of the cab, a forward-reverse switch and a rear-facing camera feed displayed on a 7-inch screen.

JCB says the feature removes the need for constant seat rotation during trenching, grading and patch work, boosting productivity by around 10 per cent.

With a 1.3-cubic-metre loader bucket and a 7.7m excavator reach, JCB says the 5CX delivers the highest output in its backhoe loader range.

Gonçalves also flagged wheel loaders — from compact models through to larger, higher-tonnage units — as "a major opportunity" for the brand locally, alongside a broader mini excavator range that he said had yet to be fully explored in the Australian market.

Both categories are expected to see expanded availability as Adaptalift JCB builds out its local inventory over the coming months.

JCB's global wheel loader line-up spans more than 20 models, from compact 2-tonne machines suited to tight worksites and farmyards, through to mid-sized units for construction and waste handling, and up to 24-tonne loaders for quarrying and bulk material applications.

JCB's Fastrac tractor range, already represented in Australia by two models, is being expanded with the new Fastrac 6000.

"That's due to land in Australia in the next couple of months," Brunt said, who described the Fastrac as "an iconic product" for the brand.

The 6000 Series was launched globally as a new tier between JCB's existing 4000 and 8000 Series ranges, comprising two models: the 6260, producing 284hp, and the 6300, producing 335hp.

Both are built around a new chassis and powertrain, with a rear three-point linkage rated to 11,000kg, four-wheel steering and a central tyre inflation system that allows operators to switch between field and road tyre pressures on the move.

The JCB Fastrac 6000 has also picked up several international accolades, including the Sustainable Tractor of the Year award at Agritechnica 2025 and a gold award at the LAMMA exhibition earlier this year.

Several electric models are already available and well suited to noise- and emissions-sensitive worksites, Brunt said, with more expected to join the local range as demand grows.

Current offerings include the HTD-5E dumpster, 19C-1E mini excavator, 1TE electric site dumper and a range of electric scissor lifts.

Hydrogen power, however, remains some way off for Australian customers.

"The difficulty, obviously, with hydrogen is there's a lack of infrastructure in Australia at the moment, but essentially the product is ready to go," Brunt said.
