Now this is not something you see on your average work site – a Komatsu PC200-7 excavator painted in the colours of outback Australia.
It was the work of famed artist, Kevin Charles "Pro" Hart, who was known for his artwork depicting life in the Australian outback.
The excavator was acquired by plant hire and demolition specialist, Markwell Group, in 2002 at a special auction with proceeds going to the Beacon Foundation.

The Beacon Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which works with youths, particularly in disadvantaged communities, to gain access to employment or further education opportunities after leaving school.
“Pro Hart was always involved in youth unemployment, and when the opportunity came about to make a difference, he jumped on it,” said Markwell Group Managing Director, Gavin Markwell.
“The Markwell Group supports the youth in Australia…they need a go, they need a chance and they need the ability to learn.”
Born and bred in Broken Hill, NSW, Pro Hart used to work in the mines in the region which served as an inspiration for some of the artwork on the excavator.
“There is a picture of Broken Hill South Mine on the side of the machine,” Markwell said.
“The ants around the bottom of the excavator represent the workers in the mine.”

The Komatsu PC200-7 has done about 100 hours and after almost 18 years in the fleet, Markwell said it is time to pass it on to another good home.
“This excavator is one-of-a-kind in the world, there is no other,” Markwell said.
“It has played an important role in highlighting a prominent social plight. It has given the earthmoving industry a sense of belonging by giving back to the community.
“However, it is now time for this excavator to move on to help someone else promote their cause.”

The Markwell Group said it is open to offers for the excavator. Interested parties can contact the company at sales@markwellgroup.com.au.
