Toyota Huskis tackle Perth's waste task

WA waste specialist adds a further Huski skid-steer to its fleet

Steann Pty Ltd, a Perth-based waste collection and disposal specialist, has just added a Toyota Huski 5SDK9 skid-steer loader to its line-up, bringing its fleet of Huskis up to eight.

It's the largest Huski skid-steer the company has purchased to date, its 730 kilogram operating capacity eclipsing that of the previous seven SDK8 models it had already purchased.

The combination of a larger loader and grapple increases efficiency by reducing the number of forward and reverse movements needed to load the waste.

The company is using the vehicles to help it collect green and domestic household waste, and has used Toyota Huski loaders for the task since 2002. The firm began with a 3SDK8 back then, and says it still has several 4SDK8 loaders in regular use with over 10,000 hours on their clocks.

Company founder, Jack Groote, said the reliability and efficiency of the Toyota Huskis is outstanding.

"I have tried other brands over the years, but the running costs were prohibitive," said Mr Groote.

"We prefer the straight-forward design of the Toyota skid steers."

Mr Groote also praised the service support from Toyota Material Handling's Perth branch.

"The mobile-service technicians service our loaders before 7am, ensuring they're ready for a full day's work," he said.

Toyota Material Handling Perth area sales manager, Paul Smith, said Jack Groote has owned 11 Huskis and still has eight units in service.

"The renowned reliability of the Toyota diesel engines, hydraulics and drive system make them ideal for Steann's operations," he said.

"The Huskis are equipped with slick, long-wearing tyres to suit the constant on/off-road application. The slick tyres are longer wearing than treaded tyres and they don't damage people's lawns."

Steann's fleet of eight Huski loaders and 19 trucks collects green waste, E-waste and rubbish from kerbsides throughout Perth and the south-west of Western Australia, with the waste and rubbish loaded into compactor trucks and taken to a relevant sorting station.
