Caterpillar said its new 953 track loader will replace the existing 953K model and offers a range of improvements including new engine tech and upgraded cabin and controls to provide more efficiency, productivity and cost savings for the operator.
The 953 meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V emission standards and has a power output of 160hp and an operating weight of about 15 tonnes.
A key upgrade on the Cat 953 loader is a redesigned cab featuring more comfortable seats and more intuitive controls, Cat said. A suspension seat allows for a more comfortable operation while adjustable armrests and controls help reduce operator fatigue. An intuitive 10-inch touchscreen dash display comes standard and features a High Definition rearview camera.
A Slope Indicate function on the display shows machine mainfall and cross slope, helping to make operations much easier.
Operators can also choose how they operate the machine. Speed of the machine can be controlled via joystick or V-lever and foot pedals; while implement control can be done via joystick or two implement levers.
Cat said the joystick option should be familiar for operators experienced with skid steers or compact track loaders. With either control scheme, operators can set implement response – fine, normal, coarse – to match operator preference or application.
Repetitive lift, lower, rack, dump and float functions can be preset to make jobs like truck loading easier.
Another new feature on the 953 is the availability of different engine modes to tailor power to the job for reduced fuel consumption. The 953 is powered by a Cat C7.1 engine with three modes to offer the right amount of power when needed. According to Cat, a 10 per cent reduction in fuel consumption can be achieved with the Auto Mode that will adapt the engine speed to the load. Eco Mode will use even lower speed for further reduction in fuel consumption in lighter duty applications. Power Mode will keep engine speed high to provide maximum power at all times.
Options on the 953 include a Performance Series bucket that can boost productivity by up to 20 per cent, according to Cat, as well as a Fusion Quick Coupler that enables fast attachment changes. A variety of buckets, forks and other tools are available with the 953 that can be shared among track loaders, wheel loaders and other Fusion compatible machines.
Purpose-built Low Ground Pressure (LGP), Waste Handling, Ship Hold and partial Steel Mill machines are factory equipped with specialised undercarriage, guarding and other features for tougher tasks.
As per other new generation Cat machines, the 953 also comes with a range of telemetry and tech functions including:
