Caterpillar dealer, WesTrac, is taking the men’s health message beyond the month-long Movember campaign by painting a Cat 914K wheel loader blue to raise awareness for the all-important issue.
The new loader is bound for Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo mine site in the Pilbara and will serve as a reminder for mine workers to take note of men’s health on an ongoing basis.
WesTrac CEO, Jarvas Croome, said while Movember was a good opportunity to shine a light on men’s health, the bright loader will keep the topic front of mind for many workers.
“People are bound to notice the sky blue loader, which will stand out among the typical Cat yellow equipment on site,” he said.
“We hope that will generate conversations and greater awareness about men’s health.”
WesTrac staff initially floated the idea and the arrival of the new loader presented a perfect opportunity to realise it. WesTrac offered to carry out the custom paint job and Rio Tinto was quick to oblige.
Croome said while there has been significant success in regards to safety performance across the Australian mining industry, people were less inclined to discuss personal health issues.
“It is vitally important to encourage more open and honest attitudes among men when it comes to their health,” he said.
“Creating these novel discussion points and having industry leaders such as Rio Tinto flying the flag for men’s health are the sort of things that can make a real difference.”
