Innovative online labour hire agency launches industry-first recruitment platform

Australia's construction industry has seen a spike in demand for specific skillsets in recent years while turnover from all major construction work is forecast to grow strongly. The time is right to roll out innovative recruitment technology, and that's exactly what labour hire agency Workfast has done.

Indeed, the firm seized this opportunity five months ago by launching an industry-first recruitment app modelled on the Uber platform.

Workfast says the platform gives Australian construction companies access to skilled labour at competitive rates. Users can also search for work across a spectrum of construction roles, from logistics and material handling to building, administration and promotions.

Workfast says mining is another growth area and so it's capitalised on this by filling last-minute jobs in mines in New South Wales and Queensland.

The fledgling company says its ultimate goal is to help companies reduce costs and increase productivity. The technology offers an alternative choice to the traditional, outdated temp agency model, and Workfast estimates the platform to be approximately 30 per cent cheaper than average agency rates.

"Companies that are currently using a traditional labour hire or employment agency to hire construction workers are being ripped off," Workfast CEO Tim Nieuwenhuis told constructionsales.com.au.

"Variable pricing is a real innovation for the construction industry. If we find a worker that meets your requirements and availability at a lower price, we will pass that saving on to you."

In addition to offering variable pricing, Workfast says the platform completely integrates the entire HR process. The system is capable of managing timesheets, invoicing, payments and expense reconciliation, also calculating overtime hours.

According to Nieuwenhuis, Workfast workers are better paid than their peers, receiving approximately 20 per cent more in wages. And because Workfast has the 'first to market' advantage for the on-demand worker category, competition is currently nil.

The platform appears to offer value to both sides of the employment equation.

With all of these factors in mind, the company says it has high hopes of attracting some of the best candidates in the business.

Workfast considers popular employment search website SEEK to be a valuable industry tool, as a large percentage of its workforce has been acquired through SEEK ads. It says it will no doubt continue to operate this way as it scales to a greater size through coming years.
