Since releasing the Yanmar Dash 6 excavators two years ago, Australian heavy equipment distributor Tutt Bryant Equipment has received tremendous response from customers, particularly in the hire and rental market.
The Dash 6 was a culmination of four years of development, boasting a number of significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Dash 5 range.
Some of the improvements include upgraded hydraulic pumps, more fuel efficient engines, lighter booms, bigger radiators, larger cabs, and tougher undercarriages, which according to Yanmar offer a 10 per cent increase in digging and dumping performance over the Dash 5 units.
The ViO45-6 and ViO55-6 models, in particular, feature new eco-mode and auto-deceleration controls that offer fuel savings of up to 20 per cent over previous models, Yanmar adds.
"I've had hire companies tell me they would love to purchase a whole fleet of Yanmar excavators," says Tutt Bryant Yanmar rep, Ricardo Salvaggio.
"They're not the cheapest machines on the market, but it's the return on investment, as well as their resale value that are making them so popular.
"Hire companies are looking at long term use and investment."
Returning features include the zero-tail swing, which Yanmar invented and patented. Zero-tail swing means the chassis of machine do not protrude past the width of its tracks, thus enabling the machine to rotate at its base without hitting structures or other machines.
This feature is particularly useful for work in confined spaces, which is what the Dash 6 excavators have been designed for.
"This size of excavator is one of the highest selling in the market at the moment," Salvaggio says.
"The 5.5-tonne models in particular are ideal for demolition as they have been proven in their durability. You can send them inside buildings, bring the buildings down from the inside using pulverizers or hammers.
"They are also ideal for highway jobs, under bridges, or for apartment work as they’re small enough machines to get the jobs done."
The Dash 6 excavator range features a VIPPS hydraulic system unique to Yanmar that utilises 3 pumps to activate each function. This offers a smooth, simultaneous and powerful operation of the excavator. Cylinder guards protect the rods and seals of the hydraulic cylinders from damage, which is crucial in a demolition operation.
The undercarriage of the ViO45-6 and ViO55-6 has larger width sprockets, idlers and rollers installed to allow for a larger contact surface.
"For a zero swing compact machine, you get a lot of room inside the cabin," Salvaggio says.
"The air conditioning system is a lot better as well, and there is also a better venting system in the new machines compared to the Dash 5 series."
A new LCD monitor in the cab provides operators with daily readouts to assist with servicing and maintenance.
Other standard features on the Yanmar Dash 6 excavators include integrated ROPS/FOPS canopy and guards, as well as redesigned booms that are now lighter in weight.
