CASE offers first glimpse of new electric excavator

The 1.3-tonne CX15 EV was unveiled at a CNH Industrial event held in late February this year in Miami Beach, Florida

CASE Construction Equipment is continuing its electrification journey with the recent unveiling of its new battery-powered mini excavator, following the launch of its fully electric backhoe two years ago.

Attendees of the CNH Industrial Capital Markets Day event earlier this year were treated to a first look at the new CX15 EV which CASE plans to launch into the North American market in 2023.

The CASE CX15 EV has an operating weight of 2900 pounds (around 1.3 tonnes) and is powered by a 16kW electric motor.

It has been designed to fit into and work in tight spaces, featuring retractable tracks that get machine width down to about 31 inches. Its minimum swing radius design allows it to work very close to structures and obstacles, CASE said.

The 21.5kWh lithium-ion battery is charged either by the 110V/220V on-board charger, or via an external rapid charger that can have the machine charged typically within 90 minutes.

Depending on the type of work, the CASE CX15 EV will provide enough power to work through a full eight-hour work day, CASE claimed.

It also comes with a load-sensing hydraulic system that provides a smooth and powerful performance, CASE added.

“From reduced emissions to noise reduction and lower lifetime fuel and maintenance costs, the CASE CX15 EV will be a powerful, efficient and sustainable addition to our mini excavator lineup,” said CASE head of construction equipment product management for North America, Brad Stemper.

“This machine is the next step in our electrification journey — and we are committed to bringing the industry a complementary portfolio of diesel and electric equipment to meet the needs of the broadest range of applications and operations.”
