Seventy-five years ago, Hastings Deering acquired its Alice Springs business centre and distributorship of the Caterpillar brand, thus kick starting its partnership with the major construction equipment company which has lasted till today. Prior to the acquisition, the company focused on being the sole metropolitan distributor for the Ford Motor Company within Australia.
In late June 2022, Hastings Deering gathered and hosted extended members of its community at the very centre that started it all, as part of the company’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
“Standing in our founding Caterpillar dealership surrounded by our community of customers, partners and employees makes this all the more special,” said Hastings Deering CEO, Mark Scott.
“Although our partnership with Caterpillar has been crucial to our business success, we all know Hastings Deering is more than that. Our success is seen in our people, our heritage and heart.”
Among its employees that range from apprentices at the start of their career to ‘veterans’ who have served more than 50 years with the company, a consistent theme was apparent - the pride in being a member of the Hastings Deering community, the company said.
“We take our heart very seriously. Behind the heavy machinery, and the products and services we provide are our staff and customers. They are who we look to and think of when we consider our business,” he said.
“Each and every one of them demonstrates the culture and spirit that has seen our company grow through decades of changes.”
